Course Description

The ability to develop awareness of trauma and the knowledge to interact with service users humanely and compassionately in response to recognised traumatic events is an important quality that those that work within our justice system, where there is a real importance to understand how psychological trauma can impact on life choices and how a trauma informed approach can have a positive impact on service users and staff alike. By recognising that offending behaviour doesn’t happen in isolation and typically is caused by social, developmental, health and psychological factors we can help to better understand the service user and be better equipped to help support those in need to rehabilitate. Equally as important is recognising that those working within human services are often presented with emotionally and challenging situations themselves making it imperative to learn how to recognise stress reactions, and most importantly adopt positive coping strategies enabling better well-being and preventing long term physical and emotional illness. our trauma informed practice course is designed to do just that.
