Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a globally recognized course designed to equip participants with the knowledge and confidence to support individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

Similar to physical first aid, a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider®) can assist someone before professional help is available. It’s important to note that MHFA does not replace professional treatment and is not intended to be therapeutic.

Upon completing the course, participants will be able to provide crucial support during mental health crises. They will learn how to promote early intervention and gain valuable information on accessing professional help.

Course Aims

The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) program aims to reduce the stigma associated with mental health. By completing the course, you will achieve:

  • Understanding mental health and factors affecting wellbeing.
  • Practical skills to identify triggers and signs of mental health issues.
  • Confidence to intervene and provide reassurance and support to someone in distress.
  • Improved interpersonal skills, including non-judgemental listening.
  • Knowledge to guide individuals towards appropriate support for their recovery, whether through self-help resources, employer assistance, NHS services, or a combination thereof.
